Arc System Works confirmed three new fighters for Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls in February’s “Unbreakable X-Men” trailer, alongside the game’s official release date: August 6, 2026 on PlayStation 5 and PC.
Wolverine, Magik, and Danger round out the X-Men team representation, bringing the confirmed roster to 11 of a promised 20 characters at launch.
The New Fighters
Wolverine is the most anticipated addition and the one everyone expected. The trailer shows classic Wolverine gameplay — Adamantium claws, aggressive rushdown, and what appears to be a regeneration mechanic. Given Arc System Works’ track record with character design in Guilty Gear and Dragon Ball FighterZ, expect Wolverine to be one of the game’s flagship picks with deep combo routes.
Magik (Illyana Rasputina) wields her Soulsword alongside teleportation magic. She’s a more technical pick — the trailer shows portal-based mixups and what look like stance transitions between sword and spell. For fighting game players, she reads like a hybrid zoner/rushdown character with strong neutral tools.
Danger is the deep cut. A sentient Danger Room that took on a humanoid form, she’s not a household name even among Marvel fans. But Arc System Works specifically mentioned they want to balance “major Marvel icons alongside some lesser-known picks,” and Danger’s robotic design gives the animators something visually distinct to work with.

That’s 11 confirmed out of 20 at launch, with the full roster split across five teams. Nine slots remain, and the speculation machine is running hot.
The Magneto and Scarlet Witch Leak
A Bulgarian retailer called Ozone briefly listed Magneto and Scarlet Witch in their pre-order description for the game, alongside stages like Wakanda, Sanctum Sanctorum, and Hellfire Gala.
The credibility is questionable. A Reddit user pointed out that all three leaked stages appear in Marvel Rivals, and the retailer may have mixed up descriptions between the two games. The listing has since been updated to remove the specific character and stage references.
That said — Magneto in an X-Men-heavy Marvel fighting game seems almost inevitable. Whether it’s confirmed through a leak or a future trailer probably doesn’t matter. The question is more about which version of Magneto Arc System Works would design.
4v4 Tag System
Marvel Tokon uses a 4v4 tag team format, which is larger than the traditional 3v3 of Marvel vs. Capcom or Dragon Ball FighterZ. More characters on screen means more assist combinations, longer combos, and more complex team-building decisions.
Arc System Works hasn’t fully detailed how the tag mechanics work — whether it’s closer to FighterZ’s assist system or Marvel vs. Capcom’s free-form tags. Either way, 4v4 with 20 characters at launch gives enough roster diversity for the format to work, especially if the team compositions have meaningful synergy bonuses.
Why This Matters
The fighting game space hasn’t had a major new franchise entry from Arc System Works since Guilty Gear Strive in 2021. Dragon Ball FighterZ 2 is also on the horizon, but Marvel Tokon represents something different — a new IP partnership with one of the most recognizable character libraries in entertainment.
If it lands, it becomes the first serious competitor to Capcom’s Marvel vs. Capcom legacy. If it doesn’t, the FGC still gets an Arc System Works game with Marvel characters, which is hard to be upset about.
With Evo 2026 shaping up to be one of the biggest tournaments in FGC history and Guilty Gear Strive 2 on the horizon, the fighting game space is stacked heading into the second half of 2026. Marvel Tokon’s August launch puts it right in the middle of that momentum.
Pre-orders opened February 19. Nine roster slots to go.
